NAILSMA Carbon Abatement Project

This project is pursuing opportunities for Indigenous people to participate in the emerging carbon economy through strategic fire management activities which reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is anticipated that the Carbon Abatement Project will also have significant biodiversity conservation outcomes as well as social, cultural and economic outcomes for Indigenous people in remote communities.

The role will promote and communicate issues relating to greenhouse gas abatement generally and savanna burning abatement specifically, to Indigenous communities and the broader Australian community.

NAILSMA Indigenous Water Resource Management

Indigenous Water Resource Management includes two NAILSMA initiatives, the Indigenous Water Policy Group and the Indigenous Community Water Facilitator Network. Both projects promote Indigenous engagement in water reform policies and the sustainable management of water resources, and promote social, cultural and economic opportunities for Indigenous people.

The role, in general, will promote and communicate outcomes and progress of Indigenous community groups engaged in water resource management to a broad audience using a range of communication tools. The role also involves developing networks and building relationships among a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
