At their Kowanyama workshop in July 2010, Water Facilitators were joined by Dr John MacKenzie, Griffith University, Michael Storrs (Australian Water Commission) and Viv Sinnamon (Manager Kowanyama Aboriginal Land and NRM Office).

Water Facilitators participated in and/or initiated community meetings across north Australia to raise awareness of national water reform and the national water initiative, water allocation plans, and water policy issues. Water Facilitators focus on in six key catchment areas.

Activities included:

  • informal and formal conversations with community, researchers, water planners and government water planning agencies
  • presentations at community and organisational level
  • back to water country visits
  • water allocation planning activities

Water facilitators collected and collated the interests, aspirations and concerns of selected Indigenous communities and passed these back to the community for approval and consent, then passed relevant and appropriate information to NAILSMA,  host Land Councils, researchers, water planning agencies, and/or Indigenous Water Policy Group.

Water Facilitators met regularly to provide updates on achievements, to share experiences and skills, and to build their expertise.

Find out more about their activities through the regional pages above.
