North Australian Indigenous Experts Forum on Sustainable Economic Development
The Indigenous Experts Forum provides advice to the Northern Australian Ministerial Forum on key strategic policy interests relevant to Indigenous people’s aspirations for sustainable development.
Why are we involved?
Northern Australia is on the cusp of momentous economic and social change. Along with increased demand for iron ore and other resources, global demand for energy is prompting unparalleled investment in LNG processing with visions of industrial development that could not have been imagined a decade ago. Conversely, concerns about climate change and Australia’s world leadership in abating and sequestering carbon emissions have encouraged thinking about a different economic future for the north.
The emerging relationship with the Northern Australian Ministerial Forum is an opportunity to develop workable and creative partnerships that can produce institutional change as a basis for resilient, reliable communities through reliable prosperity for all people in north Australia.
Roles of the Experts Forum
The roles of the Indigenous Experts Forum are to:
- inform government about the development needs and aspirations of Indigenous north Australians;
- promote policy reform to meet the development needs and aspirations of Indigenous north Australians; and
- establish a framework to effectively and transparently manage future interactions with government to drive an Indigenous economic development agenda.
