Kalan Rangers

Kalan Rangers are based in Coen, Cape York Peninsula, and work 6km north of the town where they look after the Mount Croll Nature Refuge on Aboriginal Land, which covers 5132Ha of the Toolka Land Trust.  Kalan Rangers work in divisions which include maintenance, cultural heritage and flora and fauna.

Work includes fencing, monitoring springs, creeks, rivers and waterholes, monitoring flora and fauna, managing pests, surveying and marking and protecting culturally significant areas.
Kalan Rangers also work with the local primary school in a an attempt to preserve Aboriginal culture by ensuring cultural activities such as spear and dillybag making are taught appropriately and Aboriginal knowledge is passed down to the local children.
