Dhimurru Rangers

Dhimurru was established in 1992 to address the natural and cultural management priorities of Yolngu clans in north-east Arnhem Land, with particular emphasis on managing impacts on designated recreational areas.  The Dhimurru Rangers manage over 8,500 km² of land and 300 km of coastline, including land declared under the Dhimurru Indigenous Protected Area and the seas and marine estates under the Yolnguwu Monuk Gapu Wanga Sea Country Plan.

The Dhimurru Rangers are involved in a diverse range of management activities, including Crazy Ant eradication, ghostnet management, turtle recovery, weed and feral animal control, crocodile management, cultural heritage interpretation, ethno-ecological surveys, recreational area maintenance, traditional ecological knowledge recording and management, dugong and turtle monitoring, and seagrass mapping.
